Located halfway between Princeton and Trenton, the village of Lawrenceville combines the best of small-town hospitality with convenient travel to Philadelphia and New York City via I-95. First settled in the early 1700s as an agricultural community, this town of just under 4,000 people continues to pride itself on its rich history - its Main Street is listed as one of the first National Historic Districts in the state of New Jersey. The surrounding Lawrence Township boasts more than 33,000 residents and a bevy of outdoor activities – including the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath.

Local Attractions

Lawrenceville’s historic Main Street, which was once part of the original King’s Highway in Colonial times, still forms the heart of the community, with plenty of shops and dining options contained within its historic structures. The Presbyterian Church, founded in 1698, still lives on today in a building that dates back to 1764. Just north of the village lies the 1600-acre Mercer Meadows, a large county park with scenic trails for hiking and biking, as well as horseback riding, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

Education and Schools

Lawrenceville lies within the jurisdiction of Lawrence Township Public Schools, and students in grades PK-3 attend Lawrenceville Elementary within the village. Grades 4-12 attend school within Lawrence Township at Lawrence Intermediate School (grades 4-6), NJ “Star School” Lawrence Middle School (grades 7-8), and Lawrence High School (grades 9-12), which is a perennial recipient of the College Board’s yearly AP Honor Roll award.

In keeping with its rich history, the village of Lawrenceville is home to the prestigious Lawrenceville School (originally Maidenhead Academy) one of the oldest college preparatory boarding schools in the United States (serving grades 9-12). Other Lawrence Township private schools include: St. Ann School (PK-6); Notre Dame High School (9-12), Chapin School (PK-8); Princeton Junior School (PK-5).
